Basic Lay Servant Class - Led by Pastor Jon Overbey
This course is foundational for all courses in lay servant ministries. Participants are encouraged to discover and employ personal spiritual gifts as God intended and to consider the importance of exercising servant leadership, developing future leaders, remaining rooted in consistent spiritual practices, and being part of a group that holds members accountable in their discipleship.
Required Materials:  
Lay Servant Ministries: Basic Course Participant's Book by Sandy Zeigler Jackson and Brian Jackson
Assignment:  Purchase and read text before class
 
Preaching: Message Preparations and Delivery - Led by Pastor Rick Pressel
This course is designed for those who have not completed formal preaching training, for pastors seeking a basic refresher course, and for others who are called upon to preach in a pastor's absence.
Required Materials:
Go Preach! A Primer for Beginning Preachers
by John P Gilbert
Assignment:  In addition to reading this text prior to the workshop, each participant should bring with them one additional resource book that they have found helpful to them in preparing sermons or that inspired them to consider preaching as their call.  Each participant should be prepared by writing a very brief synopsis of the book and explain why they found it to be so helpful.
 
Leading Worship - Led by Rev. Jim Roach
Required Materials:
Worshiping with United Methodists by Hoyt L. Hickman
Assignment:  Purchase and read text before class.  More assigned work will come after instructor receives student list at close of registration
 
Lay Pastoral Giving - Led by Ann Thomas
Required Materials:  Lay Pastoral Care Giving by Tim Farabaugh
Assignment:  Purchase and read text.  Additional assignments may come from the instructor after registration closes.
 
Heritage:  Basic Beliefs/United Methodist Doctrinal Standards - Led by Rev. Dr. Arthur Collins
The purpose of this course is to acquaint the participant with the outlook and doctrines that Methodism inherited from the English Church Tradition, and also the distinctive contributions of Methodism to Christian practice and dogma.
Required Materials:
Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
Assignment:  Purchase and read both texts before class
 
Leading In Prayer - Led by Lisa Trigg
Required Materials:  Let the Whole Church Say Amen! by Laurence Hull Stookey
Assignment:  Purchase and read text.  Additional assignments may come from the instructor after registration closes.
