The classes are designed to equip the laity and to help them discern their personal calling.  The classes create opportunities for spiritual growth and enable laity to build new relationships outside of our church walls.  The classes are the path to Certified Lay Servant, Certified Lay Speaker and Certified Lay Minister.  This is an in-person Lay Servant Academy.

Available classes:

  • Introduction to Lay Ministry:  The BASIC Course:  This course is required for those seeking to a become Certified Lay Servant, a Certified Lay Speaker, or a Certified Lay Minister.  This course is foundational for all courses in Lay Servant Ministries.  Participants are encouraged to discover and employ personal spiritual gifts as God intended and to consider the importance of exercising servant leadership, developing future leaders, remaining rooted in consistent spiritual practices, and being part of a group that holds members accountable in their discipleship.  The instructor will be Pastor Brandon Scott.  The required text is:  Lay Servant Ministries-Basic Course by Sandy Zeigler Jackson and Brian Jackson.  It is available through Amazon for $11.00 and in Kindle version.  Participants are required to read the book prior to the class.
  • Leading Public Prayer:  This course is required for those seeking to become Certified Lay Speakers.  Praying in public can be daunting, but prayer is something one learns.  This course on praying in public will help the participant grow in confidence and skill in public prayer and enrich their personal prayer life.  The instructor will be Rev. Jeff Herron.  The required  text is:  Shaping the Prayers of the People, The Art of Intercession by Samuel Well and Abigail Kocher.  It is available through Amazon for $15.00 and in Kindle version.  Participants are required to read the book prior to the class.
  • Afire with God:  This is an advanced class.  All we have is from God, there is nothing good that has ever been created without our Creator’s touch.  So…what do we do with what we have been given?  Do you multiply it?  Matthew 25:14-30 “Parable of the Talents” as steward or overseers of God’s gifts we have been given the charge to nurture and grow all God has created.  Afire with God will ignite a passion to be the “Good Steward” that God has called you to be.  The instructor will be Pastor Doug Thomas.  The required text is Afire with God:  Becoming Spirited Stewards by Betsy Schwarzentraub.  It is available through Amazon for $15.00.  Participants are required to read the book prior to the class
