Select one class:

  • Introduction to Lay Ministry:  The BASIC Course - This course is required for those seeking to a become Certified Lay Servant, a Certified Lay Speaker, or a Certified Lay Minister.  This course is foundational for all courses in Lay Servant Ministries.  Participants are encouraged to discover and employ personal spiritual gifts as God intended and to consider the importance of exercising servant leadership, developing future leaders, remaining rooted in consistent spiritual practices, and being part of a group that holds members accountable in their discipleship.  The instructor will be Gina Riendeau, CLM.  The required text is:  Lay Servant Ministries-Basic Course by Sandy Zeigler Jackson and Brian Jackson.  It is available through Amazon for $11.00 and in Kindle version.  Participants are required to read the book prior to the class.
  • For the Common Good:  Discovering and Using Your Spiritual Gifts - This course meets the Spiritual Gifts requirement for those who are seeking to become Certified Lay Speakers.  This course offers a scriptural understanding of spiritual gifts as always given “for the common good”.  By helping participants identify and link their gifts, abilities, and sense of calling, laity will learn the powerful connection between spiritual gifts and vocational discernment in the context of the mission of their local church.  They will also learn how to make spiritual gifts discernment a part of their congregation’s culture and commitment to equip mission-focused leaders who make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.  The teach will be Pastor Brandon Scott.  The required text is For the Common Good:  Discovering and Using Your Spiritual Gifts by Christine Harman.  It is available through Amazon for $12.97 and in Kindle version.  Participants are required to read the book prior to the class.
  • Intentional Discipleship -  As United Methodists, we are to ‘Make Disciples for the Transformation of the World.’ What is a disciple? Is there a difference between a member and a disciple? How can we help people grow as disciples? Discipleship is not a one-size-fits-all. It does require a relational component. Explore a variety of discipling relationships, the value of each, and where each best fits in the discipleship process. How can we develop an intentional process to support intentional discipleship growth?  The Intentional Discipleship Workshop draws from Dr. Phil Maynard’s book Shift 2.0: Helping Congregations Back into the Game of Effective Ministry. The workshop, developed by Dr. Maynard, provides tools and strategies for creating intentional discipleship pathways based on years of research and experience in ministry.  The course will be taught by Rev. John Randall, an INUMC Elder serving as a church and leadership ACC ICF certified coach. Learn more about Rev. Randall @ Trans4mational Coaching. Rev. Randall was trained by Dr. Phil Maynard to facilitate the Intentional discipleship workshops.  The required text is Shift 2.0 Helping congregations back into the game of effective ministry by Phil Maynard.  It is available on Amazon for $18.95 and in Kindle version.  Participants are required to read the book prior to the class.
