Class Choices:

  • Introduction to Lay Servant Ministry:  The BASIC Course - This course is foundational for all courses in lay servant ministries.  This class is required to be a Certified Lay Servant or Certified Lay Speaker.  Participants are encouraged to discover and employ personal spiritual gifts as God intended and to consider the importance of exercising servant leadership, developing future leaders, remaining rooted in consistent spiritual practices, and being part of a group that holds members accountable in their discipleship.   Participants must read Lay Servant Ministries (the participant's book) by Sandy Ziegler and Brian Jackson prior to the class.  This is available through Amazon and Upper Room Bookstore and in Kindle and ePub formats.  This class will be taught by Lynn Nelson, Certified Lay Speaker
  • Leading Public Prayer - This class is required for Certified Lay Speakers.  Praying in public can be daunting, but prayer is something one learns.  This course on praying public will help the participant grow in confidence and skill in public prayer and enrich their personal prayer life.  The required book is:  Shaping the Prayers of the People:  The Art of Intercession by Samuel Wells and Abigail Kocher.  It is available through Amazon and Upper Room Bookstore and in Kindle formats.  Participants must read the book prior to class.  The class will be taught by Cathi Parish, Licensed Local Pastor.
  • Afire with God - This is an advanced class.  This course helps participants develop a holistic understanding of stewardship.  The required book is Afire with God, Becoming Spirited Stewards by Betsy Schwarzentraub.  It is available through Amazon and Upper Room Bookstore.  Participants are required to have read the book prior to class.  This class will be taught by Doug Thomas, Licensed Local Pastor.
