You are invited to join us for the Lay Servant Ministries Academy to begin or continue training for living out the call to make disciples for the transformation of our churches, communities, and world. This is a one day in person Lay Servant Academy. Registrants can attend only one class and must be present the entire day. Anyone may take any of the classes. There will be a pre-class assignment in addition to the required reading for each class. Please note: no lunch is provided.

Introduction to Lay Ministry: The BASIC Course: This course is required for those seeking to become a Certified Lay Servant, a Certified Lay Speaker, or a Certified Lay Minister. This course is foundational for all courses in Lay Servant Ministries. Participants are encouraged to discover and employ personal spiritual gifts as God intended and to consider the importance of exercising servant leadership, developing future leaders, remaining rooted in consistent spiritual practices, and being part of a group that holds members accountable in their discipleship. The instructor will be Lynn Armstrong, Certified Lay Speaker. The required text is: Lay Servant Ministries-Basic Course by Sandy Zeigler Jackson and Brian Jackson. It is available through Amazon for $11.91 and in Kindle version. Participants are required to read the book prior to the class.
For the Common Good: Discovering and Using Your Spiritual Gifts: This course meets the Spiritual Gifts requirement for those who are seeking to become Certified Lay Speakers. This course offers a scriptural understanding of spiritual gifts as always given “for the common good.” By helping participants identify and link their gifts, abilities, and sense of calling, laity will learn the powerful connection between spiritual gifts and vocational discernment in the context of the mission of their local church. They will also learn how to make spiritual gifts discernment a part of their congregation’s culture and commitment to equip mission-focused leaders who make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. The teacher will be Rev. John Muenier. The required text is For the Common Good: Discovering and Using Your Spiritual Gifts by Christine Harman. It is available through Amazon for $13.00 and in Kindle version for $9.99. Participants are required to read the book prior to the class.
Aging and Ministry in the 21st Century: This course offers a rich learning experience that includes knowing more about the aging process and the developmental stages of midlife and older adulthood and how we can best shape our ministry. This is an advanced class. There are no prerequisites. The instructor will be Bob Dralle. The required text is Aging and Ministry in the 21st Century by Richard H. Gentzler, Jr. is available through Amazon for $4.80.
