Classes offered:

  • Introduction to Lay Servant Ministry: The BASIC Course - This course is foundational for all courses in lay servant ministries. This class is REQUIRED to be a Certified Lay Servant or a Certified Lay Speaker.  Participants are encouraged to discover and employ personal spiritual gifts as God intended and to consider the importance of exercising servant leadership. developing future leaders, remaining rooted in consistent spiritual practices, and being part of a group that holds members accountable in their discipleship. Participants must read Lay Servant Ministries (the participants book) by Sandy Zeigler and Brian Jackson prior to the class. This is available through Amazon for $11.00 and in Kindle version for $7.49. The class will be taught by Rev. Dr. Brian Cooper. 
  • Leading Public Prayer - This meets the Leading Prayer is REQUIRED for those seeking to become Certified Lay Speakers. Praying in public can be daunting, but prayer is something one learns. This course on praying in public will help the participant grow in confidence and skill in public prayer and enrich their personal prayer life. The required text is Shaping the Prayers of the People: The Art of Intercession by Samuel Wells and Abigail Kocher. It is available through Amazon for $14.36 and in Kindle version for $2.99. Participants are expected to have read the book prior to class. The class will be taught by Rev. Emojean Brindel.
  •  Devotional Life in the Wesleyan Tradition - This class is open to anyone and meets the advanced class requirement for those seeking to maintain their certifications. This class is structured around Wesley’s “means of grace” and covers, among other topics, prayer, Scripture, the Lord’s Supper, and fasting – major features in John Wesley’s devotional life. Participants will learn how they can apply Wesley’s ministry to their own life. The required text is Devotional Life in the Wesleyan Tradition by Steve Harper. It is available through Amazon for $6.80. Participants are expected to have read the text prior to class.  The class will be taught by Rev. Brian White.

 

 Classes are open to anyone interested.  It is expected participants will be present for the entire day.  Participants are expected to have read the required reading and to have completed the pre-class assignment prior to the class date.
