The purpose of the Breaking Barriers HIV/AIDS ministry conference is to help create an AIDS-free world through saving lives, reducing stigma and increasing awareness.  The gathering is open to anyone with an interest in reaching out to the HIV/AIDS community with a message of love.
 
Dynamic speakers, immersive pre-conference mission experiences, diverse workshop presentations and powerful worship services will offer attendees an opportunity to learn, share and connect.  Participants can expect to return home feeling inspired, empowered and prepared to strengthen HIV/AIDS ministry initiatives in their communities.
 
Speakers include Jeanne White, Mother of Ryan White, AIDS activist Hydeia Broadbent, Bishop Tracy Smith Malone, Bishop Julius C. Trimble and many more.

  1. Step-Up Inc - Step-Up’s mission is to promote health and well-being among underserved and hard to reach populations by providing HIV services, education, training and advocacy.  
  2. Conversations with Indiana Medical HIV experts - Engage in an informal dialogue with HIV/AIDS health professionals from the Indianapolis area and beyond who will share their experiences addressing HIV and AIDS, emerging trends and gaps in services as well as advocacy ideas. 
  3. Indianapolis Children's Museum Ryan White Room - Learn how this young teenage Hoosier fought fear and misinformation about AIDS head-on.  In the early 1980’s, reports of a new disease called AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) terrified the nation. Even after facts became available about how AIDS is spread, fear and misinformation were rampant. Ryan White, a teenager who contracted AIDS through medication for his hemophilia, was expelled from his school due to his condition. His fight to be allowed to return to school and live a normal life made him famous around the world

Cost:  $125 per person (includes two lunches and two dinners plus program costs)
 
CEU:  United Theological Seminary will be providing 2.1 CEU's for those interested.  Cost is $10.  Payment must be made during the registration process.  Certificate will be mailed to you.

Cancellation Policy:  all cancellations must be received by email to lisa.timmerman@inumc.org 
 
  • Cancellations received before October 1, 2018 will receive a $100 refund
  • Cancellations received by October 15, 2018 will receive a 50% refund.
  • No refunds after October 15, 2018.
 
Scholarship Information:  a scholarship fund is available for partial scholarships to be applied to hotel and/or registration expenses.  Applications must be received and approved BEFORE you register.  You will be given a discount code to use during the registration process.
