Select one class:

  • Introduction to Lay Servant Ministry: The BASIC Course - This course is foundational for all courses in lay servant ministries.  This class is REQUIRED to be a Certified Lay Servant or Certified Lay Speaker.  Participants are encouraged to discover and employ personal spiritual gifts as God intended and to consider the importance of exercising servant leadership, developing future leaders, remaining rooted in consistent spiritual practices, and being part of a group that holds members accountable in their discipleship.  Participants must read Lay Servant Ministries (the participants book) by Sandy Ziegler and Brian Jackson prior to the class.  This is available through Amazon for $10.92 and in Kindle and EPub formats for $8.49.  This class will be taught by Lynn Nelson, Certified Lay Speaker
  • Leading Worship - This is a REQUIRED course for Certified Lay Speaker.  This course focuses on the ministry of the lay servant who either regularly or occasionally leads a group or congregation in worship.  This class will be led by Rev. Michelle White.  The required text is:  Worshiping with United Methodists (revised) by Hoyt Hickman.  It is available through Amazon for $14.32 and Kindle version for $9.99.  Participants are expected to have read the book prior to class.
  • Lay Servants Lead in Conflict Resolution:  Every church deals with conflict, both healthy and unhealthy, and servants can be equipped and empowered to heal lead through those times of conflict as a time of transformation.  The class will be led by our Conference Superintendent Rev. Lore Blinn Gibson.  The required participant's text is:  The Spirit and Art of Conflict Transformation by Thomas Porter is available through Amazon for $17.38.  Participants are expected to have read the text prior to the class.
