Classes:

  • Introduction to Lay Ministry: The BASIC Course - This course is required for those seeking to become a Certified Lay Servant, a Certified Lay  Speaker, or a Certified Lay Minister. This course is foundational for all courses in Lay Servant Ministries. Participants are encouraged to discover and employ personal spiritual gifts as God intended and to consider the importance of exercising servant leadership, developing future leaders, remaining rooted in consistent spiritual practices, and being part of a group that holds members accountable in their discipleship. The instructor is Terri Budde, Certified Lay Speaker. The required text is Lay Servant Ministries-Basic Course by Sandy Zeigler Jackson and Brian Jackson. It is available through Amazon for $11.00 and in Kindle version. Participants are required to read the book prior to the class.
  • Leading Worship - This course is required for those seeking to become Certified Lay Speakers. For United Methodists, worship is formative and can revitalize people's lives. This course focuses on the ministry of the lay servant who either regularly or occasionally leads a group or congregation in worship. The instructor is Pastor Branden Scott. The required text is Worshiping with United Methodists by Hoyt I. Hickman, revised edition. It is available through Amazon for $14.39 or in Kindle version for $9.99. Participants are required to read the book prior to the class.
  • Leading Missional Small Groups - This advanced class shows us a way to form missional communities and congregations. It draws from John Wesley's own organizing abilities and will better equip today's congregations to be more transformational. The required text is Transforming Community: The Wesleyan Way to Missional Congregations by F. Douglas Powe, Jr. and Henry H. Knight III. It is available through Amazon for $15.00 and in Kindle version for $9.99. The instructor is Rev. Tim Powers.
