North District Evangel Heights Lay Academy 2022

The world has changed so much in the last two years, but the lost are still lost. Probably even more people are wounded and searching for answers. Join with some great people to draw closer to God and His plan for you. We are offering six workshops. Whether you are taking a step toward Lay Servant or Lay Speaker certificate or just want to join with others in learning and fellowship, you will be uplifted and encouraged on your spiritual journey. Come, equip yourself to do your part to grow God's Kingdom.

Preaching I - Called to Preach - Begin to learn tools to create faithful, engaging sermons and learn skills to gain comfort in public speaking in all settings. Led by Pastor Sandy Atkinson; Book: From Pew to Pulpit ISBN 978-0-68706-660-5; $10 - 16. Class size is limited to 8.
Preaching II - Dig deeper into the skills learned in Preaching I. Discuss types of sermons, using the hymnal, finding a story, and how to better communicate your thoughts. Led by Pastor Carl Hetler; Book: From your Heart to Theirs ISBN 978-0-88177-536-5; $6-8. Class size is limited to 8.
Preaching III - This class is not offered very often. Take your sermon writing and delivery to the next level. Requires completion of Basic Preaching I and Preaching II. Led by Pastor Vickie VanNevel. No book is required. Class size is limited to 8.
Fun with Polity! - the Book of Discipline Made Simple - An overview of the structure and organization of The United Methodist Church...made FUN! Requires completion of the Basic Course. Led by Pastor Mike Settles; Book: The Method of our Mission ISBN 978-1-42676-717-3; $21-23. Copy of 2016 Book of Discipline of UMC would be helpful, but not required.
