You are invited to join us for the Lay Servant Ministries Academy to begin or continue training for living out the call to make disciples for the transformation of our churches, communities, and world.  

Cost:  $20.00 per person

Classes Offered:

  • BASIC Lay Servant Ministries - This course is foundational for all courses in lay servant ministries.  Participants are encouraged to discover and employ their personal spiritual gifts as God intended and to consider the importance of exercising servant leadership, developing future leaders, remaining rooted in constant spiritual practices, and being a part of a group that holds members accountable in their discipleship.  You will also learn a few best practices as a church leader for mission and ministry in the community - and in your daily life.  Expect to have fun along the way!  You will need to order this textbook:  Lay Servant Ministries Participant's Book by Sandy Ziegler Jackson and Brian Jackson.  ISBN:  978-0-8177-626-3
  • Leading Prayer Advanced Course:  Public Prayer - Praying in public can be daunting, but prayer is something one can learn.  This course on praying in public will help the participants grow in confidence and skill in public prayer and enrich their personal prayer life.  You will need to order this textbook:  Shaping the Prayers of the People:  The Art of Intercession by Samuel Wells and Abigail Kocher.  ISBN: 978-0-8028-7097-1
  • Leading Worship Advanced Course:  Leading Worship - This course focuses on the ministry of the lay servant who either regularly or occasionally leads a group or congregation in worship.  You will need to order this textbook:  Worshiping with United Methodists  by Hoyt Hickman.  ISBN:  978-0-687-33526-8

Doors will open at 8:30 am.  Class time will be 9:00 am - 3:00 pm, with a 1-hour lunch break.  There are several restaurants in the area.  Closing Recognition Service & Communion will be at 3:15 pm on Saturday, August 13th.  Attendance is REQUIRED at both sessions (August 6 & 13).
